MARGAO: Girish Chodankar, the former president of the GPCC and a member of the Congress Working Committee, had his car’s side window glass shattered by unknown criminals on Friday.
Late Friday, Girish submitted a report to the Fatorda police station. Girish has stated that the event occurred hours after he tweeted earlier in the morning to ban T Raja Singh’s travel to the State over the weekend, even though he has not suspected any person or organization of being responsible.
Girish had parked his car to attend a requiem mass at the Holy Spirit Church on Friday night when the incident happened in the Holy Spirit Church Square.
The incident was discovered when Girish got back to his car after the mass and discovered that the side glass was damaged.
Although he did not file a police report right away after the incident was made public, he ultimately made the decision to do so out of prudence, he told The Goan late Friday. “The incident occurred hours after I demanded that T Raja Singh’s visit to Goa be banned, but I have not suspected anyone of being responsible,” he stated.
Chodankar has previously vehemently opposed the BJP government’s choice to bring divisive figure T Raja Singh, who has a track record of using hate speech and communal rhetoric, to the state.
Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, Girish had described the offer as an effort to deflect criticism of the administration shortcomings while planting the seeds of intercommunal strife.
