CORTALIM: Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Monday announced that
the first edition of Cortalim Shigmotsav 2026 will be held on March 8 at Bandantulo Khuris, NH-66, Cortalim from 3.30 pm onwards,
Addressing mediapersons in the presence of members of Cortalim Kala Kendra and Cortalim Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti, Vas said the event is being organised following a strong public demand for a Shigmotsav celebration in the constituency.
Vas recalled that two years ago he had organised Carnival celebrations in Cortalim for the first time as an experiment.
“When we introduced the Carnival in Cortalim two years ago, it was an experiment. The response we received was tremendous and beyond expectations. Encouraged by that support, we successfully held the second edition this year as well. Seeing the enthusiasm of the people, there was a strong demand to also organise Shigmotsav here,” he said.
He added, “Many residents from Cortalim usually travel to Vasco and Margao to watch the Shigmotsav parades. People expressed that they wanted such a vibrant celebration in their own constituency. Respecting their sentiments, we have decided to organise the first-ever Shigmotsav in Cortalim on March 8 so that families can enjoy the festivities closer to home. The Cortalim Kala Kendra, in collaboration with the Cortalim Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti, will organise the grand Cortalim Shigmotsav”
“The annual cultural extravaganza, which celebrates Goa’s rich Shigmo traditions, is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from various romtamel groups, chitrarath tableaux teams and fancy dress contestants from across the region.” Said Vas
The organisers announced attractive cash prizes for various competitions. In the Romtamel category, the first prize carries ₹85,000 along with a trophy, followed by ₹50,000, ₹25,000 and ₹15,000 for the second, third and fourth places respectively. Five consolation prizes of ₹10,000 each will also be awarded.
In the Chitrarath competition, the first prize is ₹1,00,000, while the second, third and fourth prizes are ₹75,000, ₹50,000 and ₹25,000 respectively, along with five consolation prizes of ₹15,000 each. Fancy Dress prizes include ₹10,000 for first place, ₹7,000 for second, ₹5,000 for third and ₹2,500 for fourth, besides five consolation prizes of ₹1,000 each.
