MORMUGAO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) kick-started a drainage improvement project in Baina, valued at Rs 95 lakhs. The project was inaugurated by MMC Chairperson Girish Borker, accompanied by Ward Councillor Deepak Naik and councillors Shami Salkar and Amay Chopdekar, among others.
Speaking at the launch, Ward Councillor Deepak Naik highlighted the project’s scope, which aims to upgrade the drainage system from Ambabai Temple to the Government School in Baina.
“MLA Krishna Salkar observed that heightened roads had caused drainage gutters to sink to a lower level, leading to inefficiencies. This project will address these issues. Additionally, the road from Ambabai Temple to Kamat Garage will be hot-mixed, road shoulders leveled, and the drainage system revamped. Other major projects in my ward include the Power House project, renovation of the old fish market, and a new garden project,” Naik stated.
He further assured that the initiative would resolve issues related to cross-drains and sewage, bringing long-term relief to residents.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker emphasized that the project was a collaborative effort with MLA Krishna Salkar, who advocated for drainage improvements in light of the area’s significance, housing a government college and market.
“Once roads are hot-mixed and shoulders are leveled, the improved gutters can be converted into footpaths, benefitting students from nearby schools and colleges. This ward will see a total transformation over the next few years with the completion of key projects, including a seven-storey Power House building with an air-conditioned hall, market complex, and shops,” Borker shared.
” We want to assure residents that the drainage improvement project is part of a broader commitment to enhancing infrastructure and living standards in Baina. The council hopes these developments will address long-standing issues while paving the way for future growth in the area.” Said Borker
