PONDA: The Villagers in Wadi Talavalim Panchayat strongly opposed another mobile tower coming up at Mahalaxmi Nagar Talavalim, and memorandums have already been submitted to Panchayat opposing this tower.
Earlier last month, one tower was erected over Government Primary School Building despite opposition by locals and PTA Associations ignoring their demand to shift it away from the residential and School Complex area at Bhedshem Talavalim. However despite opposition
that tower was erected on the government primary school premises.
Now in the Wadi Talawali Panchayat area, the locals have also opposed this other proposed tower at Mahalaxmi nagar, where foundation work for the tower is progressing against the wishes of locals.
There was a heated discussion on the tower issue in the Gram Sabha held. Locals said there is already one tower at Mahalaxmi Nagar just fifty meters away, and why need another close to it.
According to locals, this mobile tower is being set up in a private space adjacent to the residential area in Ward 7 at Mahalakshminagar Talawali.
Since the tower is very close to the population, the locals have expressed fear that the radiation will affect the health of the citizens. It has been licensed by the Public Works Department. But the Panchayat has waved its hands, saying that the tower’s license does not come under its jurisdiction.
Moreover, the locals have submitted a written statement to Deputy Collector, Panchayat, demanding that the proposed tower be erected elsewhere. Locals said Even after opposition, the Work on the tower construction is in full swing.
