MORMUGAO: The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted inspections at Mundvel-Vaddem, Vasco to check for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA). The Enforcement Squad booked 11 cases for violation of Section 4 and 6(a) and recovered fines of Rs.2200/- from Grocery Stores, Liquor store, Pharmacy, Restaurants and Fast Food Kiosks.
The Squad which was led by Gajesh P. Shirodkar Joint Mamlatdar-III Mormugao Taluka included GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, Circle Inspector Hanumant Mandrekar, Gautam Salunke Talathi and Police constable Venkat Prasad of Vasco Police Station.
During the inspection, the Squad also found in some establishments that the No Smoking signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA and the FSSAI Registration Certificate was not displayed. The report of the inspection will be submitted to the South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus, IAS and Dr. Sarah George Member Secretary District Level Coordination Committee for COTPA at the next quarterly review meeting.
