VASCO: At the Annual Foundation Day function of the MPA, Chairman Dr N Vinodkumar on Monday outlined ambitious plans for the Cruise Terminal and other aspects of the port functioning.
Highlighting sustainability, he emphasized tapping solar energy and constructing a dome to mitigate pollution. Additionally, plans to privatize Berth no. 9 were announced, aiming to enhance efficiency and service quality.
These initiatives signify a strategic blend of modernization and environmental consciousness in port operations. Dr. Vinodkumar underscored the commitment to both economic growth and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
“Last year we did a 19% growth after coordinating with Indian Railways who got iron ore from Karnataka and we will have more cargo identified. We are also looking to increase our revenue through new cargo, improvised cruise terminal and even leasing of our land to some private port,” he said.
He added the new cruise terminal will be fully operational by the end of the year while the works of Dome are expected to complete by 2025. As far as the port connectivity flyover is concerned, it will be completed by June 2024. We will complete our solar project in another 6-8 months. We also plan to privatise berth no 9 and we are checking for the best options. As the MPA charts its course forward, these developments promise to elevate its stature as a progressive and environmentally conscious port authority.” said Vinodkumar
