PANAJI: DGP Goa Alok Kumar said that his aim is to reduce the number of fatal accidents by focusing on traffic violations.
“50 fatal accidents were registered last year for the first two months. Our aim is to reduce the number of fatal accidents by focusing on traffic violations,” said Kumar
Kumar ascribed this success to the police’s emphasis on quality prosecution, which has directly contributed to a decrease in traffic accidents.
According to Kumar, the district counterparts and the traffic police have been working harder to punish offenders.
Since last year, the emphasis has been on intoxicated driving, helmetless riding, speeding, and any other infractions that may result in an accident. Because of this, there have been 14 fewer fatal accidents since January than there were the previous year, according to Kumar.
According to him, if a driver is in an accident, they must report themselves to the police station and transport the injured to the hospital.
The traffic police announced a day ago that, as of March 1, cash payments will no longer be allowed for the compounding of challans.
In response to a question about whether an offender who lacks a digital payment method may still pay with cash, Kumar stated that everyone uses at least one online payment method these days.
“They will be provided with a gateway, which will enable them to make the payment,” Kumar stated.
