PANAJI: Timings of schools can be kept the same as existing while implementing National Education Policy(NEP), informed Director of Education Shailesh Zingade.
Directorate of Education has sorted out the queries of teachers and headmasters regarding implementation of National Education Policy by holding sessions for them in all the Talukas, he said. Teachers interest will also be protected, he added.
First batch of 80 teachers will be sent to IISc Bangalore to attend special training on NEP on June 18, he further informed.
According to Lolayekar, NEP will be implemented at the Class IX level in Goa starting in the upcoming academic year, 2024–2025, while it will be implemented at the Class III and Class VI levels starting in the upcoming academic year, 2025–2026.
Following the completion of the academic restructuring by 2027–2028, the Directorate of Education will begin the physical restructuring of the school grounds in accordance with the 5+3+3+4 structure.
For the purpose of implementing NEP, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will adopt the National Curriculum Framework and National Credit Framework; further information about these can be found on the NCERT website.
As per NEP-2020, School Education consists of four stages—Foundational Stage (Nursery to II), Preparatory Stage (III to V), Middle Stage (VI to VIII) & Secondary Stage (IX to XII).
Three languages all on par with four credits each, Maths, Science and Social Science will have five credits each. The two additional subjects introduced as part of NEP are Interdisciplinary area (Environment Education, Junior Red cross, Scouting and Guiding, NCC, Financial literacy, Electoral Awareness) and skill-based vocational education.
