CALANGUTE: In a continued crackdown on illegal drug activity, Calangute Police arrested a Nepali national in the early hours of Thursday for possession of ganja valued at approximately ₹65,000.
The accused, identified as Nanda Ram B.K. (30), hailing from Ward No. 2, Bhatte, Tulsipur in Nepal’s Dang district, was apprehended near Palmarinha Resort in Porbawaddo, Calangute, between 12:20 AM and 2:50 AM. He was found in possession of 0.650 kg of a greenish leafy substance suspected to be ganja.
According to police sources, the accused was currently residing at Café Goa Shack in Calangute. The narcotic substance was seized through a formal panchanama procedure and has been preserved for forensic analysis.
The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by PSI Vighnesh Naik. A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
The operation is being led by PSI Kiran Naik, under the supervision of PI Paresh Naik and SDPO Shri Vishwesh Karpe, with overall monitoring by Superintendent of Police, North Goa, Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
This arrest marks another step in Goa Police’s sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking in the state’s prominent tourist hubs.
