Panaji: Amid retired Justice Ferdino Rebello’s “Enough is Enough” campaign against alleged widespread land conversions, Goa’s Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday indicated that the government has no plans to repeal Section 39A of the Goa Town and Country Planning Act, which governs zone changes.
Rane emphasised that policy decisions cannot be influenced by memorandums or public protests. “We are elected representatives with legislative authority to discuss and pass laws in the Assembly. Any changes must go through the proper legislative process,” he said, adding that Section 39A was enacted with the approval of all MLAs.
The minister further suggested that those advocating reforms could consider entering politics to bring about change through the electoral process.
Justice Rebello, a former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, recently submitted a 10-point demand charter to the Chief Minister, drawing support from former CJI B R Gavai and ex-Supreme Court judge Justice Abhay Oka.
