CANACONA – In a bizarre mishap n unique and one of such-a-type development, a loaded Inter-State truck overturned off the narrow NH-66 road and landed strangely on another Truck (which has also overturned and still lying there) late Wednesday night at Gulem in Canacona.
According to sources, the PowderPowder loaded Turck bearing no.KA coming from Mangalore and heading to Bicholim to reach Gulem to avoid an oncoming Bus has slightly strayed to its left, overturned and fell off the NH-66 road.
The irony is that this loaded Truck landed on another truck(No KA52 B3317) that was already overturned due to similar development last week.
Stating the incident at about 9 Wednesday night, truck Driver Babasab Bagli blamed the narrow Highway road and the rough-riding Inter-State Buses for the Mishap.
“To avoid the rashly oncoming Bus, I may have slightly went off the road which surprisingly has not even an inch of space beyond the Tar section of the road, and my Truck loaded with PowderPowder from Mangalore overturned and fell a truck already lying there. We don’t have any issues except the narrow road and arrogant driving of mostly Inter-State Buses on Goa roads,” he said.
When asked why the Truck that overturned last week is not yet brought on the road, the owner cum driver of the Truck (3317) informed me he purchased the Truck with a bank loan that is not even 6 months old and due to fund crunch unable to arrange expenses for its removal.
“I am constrained to pay bank instalments itself, and making arrangements for 50-60 thousand rupees to tow back the truck on the road is taking time.’, which is why the Truck is still down the road,” he said.
As the mishaps on NH-66 road, especially at the Gulem section (including Karmalghat), have almost become the order of the day, residents have demanded early commencement of works for the 4-laning of Gulem-Balli section.
Interestingly, stating his Truck is 3 & 1/2 years old, and he has financer instalments, the driver-cum- owner of Mangalore to Bicholim bound Truck removed the number plates and refused to provide the registration number to the media, stating it would hinder his moves to sell off the vehicle in future.
