PANAJI:
NSUI Goa said the postponement of upcoming Goa University Students’ Council elections is in violation of the SSA-7 statutes of Goa University, and we seek immediate redressal of this issue.
“As per SSA-7, it is explicitly mentioned that the nominations for the Students’ Council elections should occur on 30th October until 1 PM as declared by the notification dated on 25th September 2023 , and all eligible candidates should have the opportunity to submit their nominations during this specified period. However, to our dismay, the nominations were abruptly postponed without prior notice or valid reasons, leaving many potential candidates and the student body in a state of confusion and disenchantment,” NSUI said.
Also, it said, that the Final list of 42 eligible UFRs was already declared by Goa University on 28 October 2023 and suddenly trying to change the list by adding new names is directly violating the SSA-7 statutes of Goa University.
“As per SSA -7 it is clearly mentioned that students and colleges should comply with the norms and procedures mentioned,” it said.
It is clearly written in the SSA-7 statutes that the expenditure form of the UFR is to be submitted to the DSW of Goa University and not the College, NSUI said.
“We believe that the postponement of nominations just to include rejected UFR’s names not only goes against the established statutory framework but also raises concerns about transparency and fairness in the election process. As students, we hold our democratic rights in high regard, and any deviation from the prescribed rules undermines the integrity of the election,” it says.
In light of the above, NSUI earnestly requested the following actions:
1)42 eligible list of UFR’s should be final and no addition names should be done following the SSA-7 statues.
2)Immediate resumption of the nomination process in accordance with the original SSA-7 stipulations.
3)Assurance of a fair and transparent election process, adhering to the principles of democracy and the established statutes.
“If are demands are not met NSUI Gao will gherao the administrative block of Goa University and stop its functioning and will also approach the high court to get justice for our students who are the future leaders of our State Goa,” NSUI said.
