New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday emphasised the importance of jointness and interoperability among India’s armed forces, calling them a “necessity” in today’s evolving security environment. Addressing the National Tri-Services Seminar on Fostering Greater Jointness: Synergy Through Learning, Singh cited the success of Operation Sindoor as proof that integrated military action delivers decisive outcomes.
Singh noted that India’s armed forces are globally recognised for their professionalism, values, and tactical adaptability across diverse terrains. However, he cautioned that valuable lessons learnt by one service have often remained confined within that branch. “A service should not remain separate, trying to manage everything within its domain, despite having the capability to do so. Operation Sindoor showed that when defence forces work together, combined strength multiplies, making it easier to overcome bigger challenges,” he said.
Launched in May 2025, Operation Sindoor was India’s four-day military campaign against Pakistan in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The mission showcased seamless coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with precision BrahMos strikes, drone swarms, and fighter jet sorties targeting terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Punjab. Singh said the operation highlighted not only the forces’ effectiveness but also India’s growing self-reliance in defence technologies.
“The nature of threats today is far more complex, with all domains deeply interconnected. This makes synergy most important,” Singh observed. He argued that joint operations are crucial not just for securing battlefield victories but also for strengthening long-term national security and operational efficiency.
The Defence Minister will continue his tradition of celebrating Vijayadashami with soldiers, this year spending Dussehra (October 1–2) with troops at Bhuj Military Station in Gujarat. He is also expected to witness a joint forces drill during the visit, underscoring the government’s push for greater integration across services.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Singh said: “Our aim is to promote integration among all three armed forces. Operation Sindoor is a model for future strategy proof that when India’s defence forces act together, they can meet and defeat any challenge.”
