New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team after their thrilling five-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, marking India’s ninth overall title.
Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Operation Sindoor on the games field. The outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.” His reference to Operation Sindoor drew a symbolic parallel between India’s military success and the cricketing triumph, underlining that whether on the battlefield or sports field, India emerged victorious against Pakistan.
The match in Dubai saw young opener Tilak Varma anchor India’s innings with a well-paced half-century, supported by crucial partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. Their efforts guided Team India to a comfortable five-wicket win in the high-stakes encounter.
With this victory, Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India continued their dominant T20I form, having won 18 matches, lost only two, and tied two since Yadav took over the captaincy.
India’s triumph in the T20I Asia Cup adds to their storied record in the tournament, cementing their position as one of the continent’s most successful cricketing nations.
