PORVORIM: The Goa Legislative Assembly witnessed intense protests by opposition members over the tragic Arpora nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao criticized the Governor for reading out the government’s scripted address instead of acknowledging the tragedy, despite opposition requests to speak after offering prayers for the victims.
RGP MLA Viresh Borkar said the government had failed, resulting in the loss of 25 lives, and called on ministers to take moral responsibility for the incident.
He also questioned the report on the tragedy.
AAP MLA Venzy Viegas condemned the government for failing to observe even a one-minute silence for the victims and criticized the illegal permissions that allowed the nightclub to operate, saying the ruling party had shown a lack of compassion.
GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai accused the government of attempting to “eyewash” the incident, emphasizing that the tragedy had tarnished Goa’s image and stressing the need to “Make Goa; Goa Again.”
Vijai also said that today in the Goa Assembly, a defining moment unfolded. As the Governor commenced his address, GFP President, Vijai Sardesai, along with other opposition members, demanded that the House first observe respect for the 25 lives lost in the Arpora fire, a tragedy rooted in alleged corruption. The BJP’s refusal was a profound moral failure.
