PANAJI: IMD Goa Unit today in its weather forecast has extended orange alert till July 20.
“In continuation of the previous special bulletin dated 15th July, rainfall activity over Goa is likely to increase on 18th and 19th July. Extremely Heavy Rainfall (Rainfall exceeding 20cm in 24 hours) is very likely at one or two places over Goa on 18th&19th July,” said IMD Goa
“An offÂshore trough at mean sea level now runs from Maharashtra coast to Karnataka coast. A cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level,” IMD added
The forecast says that winds occasionally gusting to around 50kmph are very likely along with rainfall spells. Intense spells for a short duration is very likely over North& South Goa districts.
Considering the impacts of continued active monsoon, red colour warning is issued for North&South Goa districts on 18thJuly. Conditions for 19th July are being monitored.
“With increased rainfall activity to continue, the areas vulnerable for landslide and flooding may be kept under monitoring. Water levels in rivers may be monitored and necessary precautions may kindly be taken,” IMD added
