New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard seized a Pakistani fishing boat with nine crew members after intercepting it inside Indian territorial waters near the International Maritime Boundary Line in the Arabian Sea. The operation was carried out during a night patrol, reflecting heightened maritime surveillance along India’s western seaboard.
The vessel was detected operating within Indian waters close to the notional maritime boundary. When challenged by the patrol ship, the boat attempted to turn back towards the Pakistani side. Coast Guard personnel responded swiftly, intercepting and boarding the vessel before it could cross back. All nine crew members on board were taken into custody for further verification and questioning.
Following the interception, the boat was secured and is being towed to Porbandar for a detailed inspection. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough rummaging of the vessel to examine its cargo, equipment, and navigation records. The crew will be jointly interrogated by concerned agencies to determine the circumstances of the intrusion and verify compliance with maritime regulations.
Such incidents are treated seriously due to the sensitive nature of the maritime boundary and the potential for illegal fishing, smuggling, or other unlawful activities. Regular patrols are maintained in the region to prevent violations and ensure the safety and integrity of Indian waters.
The seizure underscores India’s continued focus on strengthening maritime security through sustained vigilance, surveillance, and enforcement. The Indian Coast Guard plays a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests, including protecting territorial waters, preventing illegal activities at sea, and responding swiftly to any intrusion.
Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken in accordance with maritime laws and established procedures. The incident once again highlights the importance of coordinated maritime patrols and constant monitoring to maintain security across India’s vast and strategically significant maritime domain.
