PANAJI: Impressive all round performances highlighted Wednesday’s matches in the Junior Cricket Championship organised by the Oxford Cricket Club, with Power Panthers Porvorim, Dhadsakhal Stars, Oxford, and Ghumteshwar all registering convincing victories. The matches were played at the SAG Ground and Arlem Ground, drawing enthusiastic participation and competitive cricket.
At Chicalim, Panjim Challengers set a challenging total of 139 for 6 in 25 overs after batting first. Vansh Kudtarkar anchored the innings with an unbeaten 80, receiving limited support from the middle order. In reply, Power Panthers Porvorim chased the target comfortably, reaching 140 for 2 in 20 overs. Openers Samaan Manjrekar and Sahil Metri laid a solid foundation with fluent knocks of 55 and 37 respectively, ensuring a smooth run chase.
In the second match at the same venue, AK Rangers posted 131 for 6 in their allotted 25 overs, largely due to a fighting 62 from Ayush Gaonkar. Dhadsakhal Stars responded with authority, reaching 132 for 3 in just 16.2 overs. Pranjal Singh starred with a commanding 59, while steady support from the rest of the batting line up helped seal a comprehensive win.
Action at Arlem Ground saw Margao Cricket Club restricted to 115 for 6 in 20 overs after disciplined bowling from Oxford. Oxford then chased down the target with ease, scoring 120 for 2 in 15.1 overs. Rumaan Mulam remained unbeaten on 43, guiding his side to an eight wicket victory.
In a closely fought encounter, Ghumteshwar edged past Banjara Cricket Club by four runs. Ghumteshwar posted 133 for 6, with Rehan Hubali top scoring with 49. Banjara’s reply ended at 129 for 7 despite a valiant effort from Yash Naik, falling just short of the target.
The tournament inauguration was graced by Goa Ranji cricketer Darshan Misal as Chief Guest, with senior player Vinavi Gurav as Guest of Honour. The championship continues to provide a strong platform for young talent across Goa.
