VASCO: A woman who sustained serious head injuries after being knocked down by a Mahindra Thar at Alto Mangoor on Saturday succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment, prompting Vasco Police to register a criminal case against the driver.
The deceased has been identified as Genadevi Jaiswar, a resident of Sasmollem, Baina, Vasco. According to police, the accident occurred at around 12.15 pm opposite La-Rose Building near the Hero showroom at Alto Mangoor.
Police said Jaiswar was walking along the edge of the road from Mangoor Hill towards Taniya Hotel when she was allegedly hit by a Mahindra Thar driven by Abhijit Rane of Orolim, Vasco. The vehicle was proceeding from Taniya Hotel towards Mangoor Hill Circle at the time of the accident.
The impact caused the pedestrian to fall onto the road, resulting in severe injuries to the back of her head. She was initially shifted to the Sub-District Hospital at Chicalim and later referred to Manipal Hospital before being transferred to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for further treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Jaiswar succumbed to her injuries.
Following inquiries into the motor vehicle accident, Vasco Police registered an offence against the driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
