MAINA: Maina Curtorim Police Station has registered a hit-and-run case following the death of a pedestrian in an accident involving a container truck at Farwade, Loutolim.
According to police, Crime No. 32/2026 has been registered under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 134(a), 134(b) and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by ASI Hemant Gaude of Maina Curtorim Police Station.
Police said that on May 12 at around 9.14 am, the accused driver of a container truck allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life. Upon reaching Farwade at Loutolim, the truck allegedly dashed against a pedestrian identified as Pramod Kumar, a native of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, who was walking along or crossing the roadside.
As a result of the impact, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, police said.
According to the complaint, immediately after the accident, the driver allegedly fled the scene with the vehicle towards Shiroda instead of stopping to assist the victim or informing the nearest police station, allegedly in an attempt to evade legal action.
Police identified the accused as Vijay Shresth, a resident of Sir JJ Road, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
