Greeting the nation on World Environment Day, PM Modi urged the people to deepen efforts towards protecting planet Earth.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Environment Day today by planting a sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park in Delhi, reaffirming his commitment to environmental conservation. As part of the second phase of the nationwide initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par’, PM Modi encouraged citizens to strengthen efforts to protect the planet.
In a message shared on his official X handle, the Prime Minister wrote, “This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let’s deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”
The event also celebrated the anniversary of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, launched by PM Modi last year on June 5, when he planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park. The initiative urges people to plant a tree in their mother’s name — a symbolic act that honors motherhood while contributing to environmental sustainability. Trees, like mothers, nurture and support life, providing a healthier planet for future generations.
The new phase of the campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par 2.0’, aims to plant 10 crore trees across India between June 5 and September 30 this year.
Highlighting India’s green progress, PM Modi noted, “It would make you all very happy that in the last decade, India has undertaken numerous collective efforts which have led to increased forest cover across the nation. This is great for our quest towards sustainable development. It is also commendable how local communities have risen to the occasion and taken a lead in this.”
World Environment Day, observed every year on June 5, saw various events and activities organized nationwide, reinforcing India’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable developmen
