BAMBOLIM: Police have initiated an inquiry into the death of a 25-year-old woman who died after developing complications following childbirth in South Goa.
According to information received from Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, Afrin Khan, a resident of Gandhinagar, Sanvordem, originally from Shimoga in Karnataka, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on May 16.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the woman had been admitted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for delivery, where she gave birth to a baby girl. However, after her condition reportedly worsened post-delivery, she was referred to GMC Bambolim for specialised treatment.
Police said she later succumbed while undergoing medical care at GMC. Following the incident, medico-legal formalities were initiated and the body was preserved at the hospital for further procedures.
Further inquiry into the case is being conducted by PSI Mayur Panshikar of Curchorem Police Station.
