MARGAO: A portion of the Urban Health Centre Margao collapsed due to heavy rains.
The incident happened at around 3.30 am. One bike was damaged due to the collapse.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that a portion of the wall of the UHC Margao collapsed last night as a result of heavy rains.
“The Director has been given instructions to inspect it and bring the issue up with GSIDC immediately,” said Rane
He further said that the Director has also been directed to move the file to the Secretary of Health, the government, and the cabinet immediately in light of the current circumstances so that a location can be determined for the UHC.
“The building needs to be protected because it is a historical structure and it is very old. GSIDC will take up the upgrade of this structure,” he added
Rane said that he will also take up the repairs of the old Hospicio building.
“The matter will be examined by the honourable chief minister, DrPramodPSawant and myself. We will approach this issue aggressively,” he added
While the access to the entrance of the UHC was blocked, a two-wheeler that was parked in the compound was also damaged.
Initially, the work carried out was to remove the stones in front and remove all debris from the UHC building.
Prima facie, the reasons for the wall collapse was attributed to rainwater seeping into the wall, which weakened the structure and eventually led to the collapse. A further inquiry will be held.
