PANAJI: Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar today said that the state cabinet would decide on a power tariff hike after it receives a proposal from the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).
“The state cabinet will decide on the power traffic hike; Once JERC approves our proposal, we will place it before the cabinet. No tariff order will be implemented without cabinet nod,” said Dhavalikar.
Speaking on Power Shortage in IDC, Dhavalikar said that there is no shortage of power supply in industrial estates.
“The cut-offs could be due to technical issues. I have not got any complaints from industries with regards to power shortage,” he added.
On road repair, he said one would have to compromise or wait to get better results.
Speaking on Power OTS, Dhavalikar said that the department intends to recover at least Rs 190 crore arrears from 1.78 lakh defaulters within two months.
“There will be no OTS power scheme in the future. There will be no more OTS scheme in the future,” he said while pleading with the public, including businessmen, industrialists, and consumers, to avail of the scheme and stop the disconnection of power supply,” he added.
Dhavalikar said the government would go ahead with the implementation of the Smart Meters without hurting the pockets of the power consumers.
“Smart meters have several advantages over conventional meters. The consumers will receive messages on the pending bills. Those who have raised doubts over the billing will get a clear idea of his power consumption. The Smart meters will also have the facility such as the telephone pay cards, wherein consumers can go for cards for the usage of power,” he said.
