PANAJI: Cracking down on rowdy elements, the North Goa police have taken preventive action against as many as 122 such persons in the past nine days.
A senior police officer said that additional police force has been deployed in coastal areas and that static as well as mobile patrolling has been stepped up.
The drive was undertaken based on directions of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar.
Police said that action has been initiated under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said that 41 persons were arrested (as a preventive measure), whereas against 81 persons chapter proceedings under the relevant sections of the BNSS have been submitted to the district administration.
Some days back, taking a serious note of the incidents pertaining to law and order in North Goa’s coastal belt, the Chief Minister had said that night patrolling would be beefed up to prevent crimes and stop late night music.
He had said that 20 per cent of the police staff would be deployed on night patrolling in the respective police station jurisdictions ,while 40 per cent of the staff would be patrolling along the coastal belt at night.
