PANAJI: Every student in the State preprimary, primary, school, and higher secondary will now be given a distinct Permanent Education Number (PEN).
The Education Department will use this number to monitor the student’s progress and, more especially, to locate and reintegrate dropouts into the system. The National Education Policy 2020 is being implemented in part by the Central Government initiative.
Shailesh Zingde, the Director of Education, has instructed all Goan schools and higher secondary institutions to distribute the special 11-digit PEN to every student. Every student from Pre-Primary to Std XII has a unique number that has been generated and is accessible through the UDISE+ portal (https://udiseplus.gov.in).
In order to ensure that all of their students have access to this Permanent Education Number (PEN), the education department has requested that all heads of government-aided, government-unaided, secondary, higher secondary, and special schools do so. The student’s PEN and U-DISE code must be included in writing on their leaving certificate, per mandatory regulations.
Beginning in 2022–2023, the Department of School Education & Literacy (DOSEL), New Delhi, will be utilizing the student-wise tracking system in U-DISE+ to identify and reintegrate dropout children into the educational system.
Parents, instructors, administrators, and community members who interact with the student would then be issued PEN in accordance with the National Digital Enterprise Architecture (NDEAR).
