New Delhi:
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two significant infrastructure projects in Delhi, marking a milestone in the city’s development. The events, which took place just ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, saw the launch of a 13-kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section of the Delhi Metro’s Phase IV.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a press conference, applauded the initiatives and emphasized that these projects were the result of joint efforts between the central and city governments. “These inaugurations are a testament to the collaborative work between the Centre and Delhi,” Kejriwal stated, congratulating the people of Delhi on the new infrastructure.
Kejriwal also addressed criticisms against his party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), by highlighting their commitment to governance despite challenges. “Over the past decade, our focus has been on delivering results, even when our leaders were imprisoned and tortured,” he said.
The AAP chief criticized PM Modi’s speech, alleging that it was largely devoted to criticizing the Delhi government. Kejriwal urged PM Modi to fulfill the promises made in the BJP’s election manifesto, particularly those affecting the people of Delhi Dehat.
The Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, which spans from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to under an hour. The Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section of the Delhi Metro’s Phase IV, valued at approximately Rs 1,200 crore, extends the Magenta Line and enhances connectivity in several areas of Delhi.
These projects come at a crucial time, with the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February, and underscore AAP’s emphasis on development amidst its ongoing tussle with the Centre.
