Panaji: A police sub inspector and two head constables attached to Calangute police station were suspended today over allegations of extortion.
PSI Jatin Potdar, head constable Pandurang Samant and IRB hawaldar Nilesh Salgaonkar have been suspended with immediate effect pending disciplinary enquiry on charges of extortion and misconduct.
Also a home guard, reportedly hand-in-gloves with the policemen, has been sent back to his parent office in Panaji.
A report had appeared on local English daily that the patrolling team was allegedly extorting money and blackmailing the victims.
employees of starred hotels, had informally complained to police higher ups about the extortion following which disciplinary inquiry was initiated.
