Panaji: Goa suffered a heavy 218 run defeat against Railways Women in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy Elite match played at the Taurian World School Ground in Ranchi on Monday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Railways piled up an imposing 309 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. India international Dayalan Hemalatha led the charge with a superb 130 off 117 deliveries, anchoring the innings with authority. She found support from Nuzhat Parween, who contributed 78, while Arushi Goel remained unbeaten on 57 to provide a strong finish.
Goa’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, though Metali Gawandar returned figures of 2 for 50. Tanaya Naik, Pooja Kalel, Vidhi Bhandare and Poorva Bhaidkar claimed one wicket each but were unable to stem the momentum as Railways crossed the 300 mark comfortably.
Chasing a daunting target, Goa began on a steady note, reaching 45 without loss. However, the innings unravelled rapidly thereafter. The side was eventually bowled out for just 91 in 24 overs. Openers Purvaja Verlekar top scored with 32, while Harshita Yadav added 25. The rest of the batting line up failed to build partnerships, leading to a dramatic collapse.
Railways’ experienced leg spinner Poonam Yadav proved decisive with the ball, claiming 5 for 20 to dismantle Goa’s middle and lower order. She received effective support from Durgesh Nandini Sahu and Shreyasi Aich, who picked up two wickets apiece.
The emphatic victory underlined Railways’ dominance in the contest, while Goa will look to regroup ahead of their next fixture against Kerala on February 18.
