CURCHOREM: Curchorem Police have registered a cyber fraud case after a 79-year-old retired government servant from Sanvordem was allegedly cheated of Rs 8.48 lakh by an unknown accused impersonating himself as a bank manager.
According to police, the case was transferred from Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar and converted into Curchorem Police Station Crime No. 23/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
As per the complaint filed by Yeshwant Bombdo Naik, resident of Anandwadi, Sanvordem, the fraud took place between May 22 and May 25, 2026. The accused allegedly accessed the complainant’s online banking account using an Airtel SIM card number previously allotted to him and, without his knowledge or consent, broke a fixed deposit worth Rs 10 lakh held at Yes Bank’s Curchorem branch.
Police said the accused then fraudulently transferred Rs 8,48,400 through multiple online transactions, thereby cheating the complainant.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Pramod Tari of Curchorem Police Station under the supervision of senior officers.
