Mapusa: Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua Peter De Souza on Tuesday inaugurated hotmixing and road restoration works in the Market Yard and KTC Bus Stand areas of Mapusa.
The works include improvement and reinstatement of roads reportedly damaged during underground cable laying carried out by the Electricity Department.
According to officials, the project has been undertaken to restore road quality and improve smooth and safe movement of traffic and pedestrians in the busy commercial zones of Mapusa.
The inauguration programme was attended by Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Priya Mishal, councillor Sainath Raul, BJP Mapusa Mandal President Yogesh Khedekar, Mapusa Merchants Association President Shripad Sawant, former Mapusa Sub Yard Chairman and trader Amey Natekar, members of the traders’ association, shopkeepers and the contractor executing the works.
Local traders and residents have frequently raised concerns over damaged road conditions in the area following underground infrastructure works, particularly during peak business hours and monsoon conditions.
Officials said the restoration works are expected to improve accessibility and reduce inconvenience faced by commuters, traders and visitors in the market and transport hub areas.
