VASCO: The road widening works at Jairam Nagar, Dabolim, were officially launched on Monday evening. The inauguration was carried out by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, in the presence of Sancoale Zilla Panchayat (ZP) member Anita Thorat, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Jagannath Yadav, and other local dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Minister Mauvin Godinho highlighted the rapid development in the Jairam Nagar area, noting that it has become one of the most upscale locations in the Dabolim constituency. “We have undertaken a series of development projects here, including the installation of a new electric transformer that will boost power supply from 100 KVA to 200 KVA. This will address existing voltage issues and improve street lighting, enhancing the overall environment for the residents of Jairam Nagar,” said Godinho.
He further emphasized the need to meet the public’s expectations regarding infrastructure, including roads, lighting, and water supply. “This road widening project, initiated under the ZP funds with the support of Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, marks a significant achievement. It’s rare to see large-scale projects like this undertaken using ZP funds, making this a unique milestone,” he added.
ZP member Anita Thorat expressed her satisfaction with the progress made using ZP funds, noting that it disproves the notion that large-scale developments cannot be executed under such funds. “I am proud that we have initiated this road widening project, which adds another accomplishment to our list of public welfare initiatives,” Thorat stated. She also listed other ZP-funded projects, such as the construction of a Futsal ground, the installation of a water pump to improve PWD water supply, walking tracks, and the development of open spaces.
Thorat concluded by highlighting the continuous efforts to use ZP funds for various public needs, including distributing sports kits, sound systems, sewing machines, benches for residential colonies, and chairs for temples.
