Panaji: In a thrilling display of athleticism and teamwork, S. S. Dempo College and St. Xavier’s College emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, at the Inter Collegiate Volleyball Championship organized by Goa University. The event, which took place from February 18 to 21, 2025, at the Goa University Ground in Taleigao, Goa, saw a total of 31 men’s and 26 women’s teams competing for the top spots.
The men’s final saw Dempo Charities Trust’s Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce & Economics, Cujira, Bambolim, defeat Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, with a score of 3-1 sets. In the semifinals, Dempo College had earlier outplayed Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim, by 3-1 sets, while C. E. S. College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, dominated Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts & Commerce, Canacona, with a 3-0 victory.
In the women’s category, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, secured the title by defeating Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem, with a score of 3-1 sets in the final. The semifinals witnessed Carmel College overcoming GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, Ponda, by 3-1 sets, while St. Xavier’s College swept past SV’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies, Mapusa, with a 3-0 win.
Mr. Tejas Gauns from S. S. Dempo College and Ms. Richa Gawade of St. Xavier’s College were recognized as the Best Players in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. The presentation ceremony was attended by notable figures including Prof. Brahma Edwin Barreto, Principal of C. E. S. College, Cuncolim, Mr. Rama Dhawaskar, DSYA Volleyball coach, Mr. Gurudas Pilankar, Senior volleyball player, and Mr. Balachandra B. Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University.
