New Delhi: Delhi Capitals secured a convincing six wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League 2026, with young batter Sameer Rizvi delivering a brilliant unbeaten half century to guide the chase.
Chasing a modest target of 142, Delhi Capitals recovered from an early setback to comfortably reach 145 for 4 in 17.1 overs, sealing the win with 17 balls to spare. Rizvi played a composed and attacking innings, remaining unbeaten on 70 from 47 deliveries. His knock included five boundaries and four sixes and came at a crucial time when the team had slipped to 21 for 2 in the fourth over.
Rizvi found solid support from Tristan Stubbs, who contributed an unbeaten 39 off 32 balls. The pair stitched together a steady partnership that ensured Delhi Capitals stayed in control of the chase after the early wickets.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ bowlers delivered an impressive performance to restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 141 in 18.4 overs. Fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan led the bowling attack, picking up three wickets each to dismantle the opposition batting lineup.
For Lucknow Super Giants, Abdul Samad was the top scorer with a quick 36 off 25 balls, while opener Mitchell Marsh added 35 from 28 deliveries after the team was asked to bat first.
Delhi’s bowling effort was further strengthened by left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who chipped in with two important wickets to keep the scoring in check.
The combined bowling performance followed by Rizvi’s match winning knock ensured a comfortable victory for Delhi Capitals as they continued their campaign in the IPL with a strong all round display.
