QUEPEM: Hundreds of locals from the Christian community from the Xeldem and Curchorem areas celebrated the Sao Joao feast with great enthusiasm.
Siddharth Desai, a Zilla Panchayat member in his comment, said “Sao Joao is one of the famous festivals in Goa, and it is enjoyed and celebrated by everyone.
This year too, Goval-Xeldem Curchorem people from all age groups enjoyed the festival in heavy rainfall with Traditional Konkani music and other programmes which the local villagers organised.
Goan Catholics celebrate Sao Joao annually on June 24 in Goa in a traditional manner by wearing Choppels on their heads and dancing in the rain. After Mass, young Goan Catholic men leap and swim in local wells, streams and ponds, swimming as a tribute to St. John the Baptist.
