Panaji: MLA Vijai Sardesai has raised serious allegations in the Goa Legislative Assembly, calling the ongoing land dealings in the Zuari area a ₹50,000 crore scam. He claimed that land originally granted by the communidade with the intention of promoting local employment is now being converted into real estate plots for sale.
“This is a massive scam. The land meant to benefit Goans by generating jobs is being diverted for profiteering through plot sales. Will the government take any action to stop this misuse?” Sardesai asked during the session.
Responding to the allegations, Town and Country Planning Minister Babush Monserrate said the land in question is owned by Zuari, a private entity, and that the government has no authority to intervene.
“The land belongs to Zuari. Since it’s their property, the government cannot interfere in their decisions,” Monserrate clarified.
Sardesai’s remarks have reignited the debate over the role of communidades and the use of land meant for public benefit, especially at a time when real estate development is rapidly expanding across Goa.
