Valpoi (SATTARI):Goa claims to be one of the developed State in the country and recently it has been named first State to achieve “HargharJal” of the central government. However what is shocking is that the State still has villages which is deprived of basic amenities like water and electricity.
Sawarde – a village in Sattari taluka is still living in the stone age even as the government boasts of being the most developed state.
Today the Budruk Karmali Manik wada villagers of Sawarde took a morcha, led by Vishwesh Prabhu at Electricity department and PWD water supply, roads division and submitted memorandum to Dy Collector Sattari taluka.
The villagers also met Health officer of CHC Valpai, and visited Sawarde Panchayat.
Claiming that there has been no water for past 35 years after connections were give, the villagers returned taps to PWD.
“After Goa got freedom they are not provided necessary facilities but what is th use of these taps when there is no water,” they said.
They further stated that there s no street lights for last many years and village is in dark.
Villagers say they supplied irregular water by tanker. There is one well in village had never been cleaned and maintained by authorities, so it cannot be used for drinking and other purpose.
“We have to fetch water from spring from hill. Besides, the road of village is in pathetic condition.There’s no toilets for most of the houses and it leads to open defecation,” they said.
Villagers lament there is no anganwadi building in village.
“Two years back foundation stone been laid but no work been done,” they say.
