ANJUNA: Anjuna Police have registered a case against a 36-year-old driver from Margao in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred at Arpora earlier this month and later claimed the life of a scooter rider undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Head Constable Vishal Gawas of Anjuna Police Station. The accident reportedly took place on May 10 at around 7:47 am near Boutique Hotel, Arpora.
Police said accused Kedar Dias, a resident of Barda, Margao, was driving a Maruti Suzuki Fronx car bearing registration number GA-08-AB-2328 from Baga towards Arpora in a rash and negligent manner. While negotiating a curve near Boutique Hotel, the driver allegedly moved towards the centre of the two-way road and slightly to the right side, failing to keep sufficiently left.
As a result, scooter rider Suryakanta Kar (33), originally from Baleswar, Odisha, who was riding a Yamaha Fascino scooter from Arpora towards Baga, allegedly lost control and crashed into the oncoming car. He fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries.
Police informed that Suryakanta Kar succumbed to his injuries on May 19 while undergoing treatment in Ward No. 123 of GMC Bambolim.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Saish M. Kinlekar of Anjuna Police Station.
