BICHOLIM: A 43-year-old scooter rider died after sustaining grievous injuries in a road accident involving an Eicher tipper truck at Vagus Junction, Kotambi, Pale, Sankhalim, Bicholim, on September 29.
According to the police complaint, the accident occurred at around 9:45 a.m. when Vikash Kumar, 24, driver of an Eicher tipper truck bearing registration number GA-11-T-6503, was travelling from Navelim towards Usgao. On reaching near Vagus Junction, police said the driver was overtaking another vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and, without taking proper care and caution, dashed the truck against a scooter bearing registration number GA-04-N-7956, which was travelling in the same direction.
The scooter rider, Narayan S/o Pandurang Karekar, a resident of Gokulwadi, Sankhalim, sustained grievous injuries and was admitted to Ward No. 120 of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. The pillion rider, Siddappa S/o Sidlingappa Hansimani, resident of Kudnem, Sankhali, sustained minor injuries.
On September 30, Bicholim Police received a wireless message from Casualty Police, GMC Bambolim, informing them that Narayan Karekar had succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The accident was initially registered as Bicholim Police Station M.V. Accident No. 78/2026, dated September 29, 2026. Further police proceedings are underway.
