Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced that seven tourist destinations, temporarily closed following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, will reopen from Monday, September 29. The decision follows a comprehensive security review conducted during a Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar.
In a statement on X, Lt. Governor Sinha said, “After a thorough security review and discussion in today’s UHQ Meeting, I’ve ordered reopening of more tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, which were temporarily closed as precautionary measures.”
The seven sites in the Kashmir Division scheduled to reopen include Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, and Kaman Post. In the Jammu Division, Dagan Top, Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, Shiv Cave in Salal, and Reasi will welcome visitors again.
The UHQ meeting was attended by senior military and police officials, including Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and commanders of multiple army corps. Senior representatives from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, and civil administration were also present.
During the meeting, Sinha lauded the security forces, J&K Police, and intelligence agencies for their successful anti-terror operations across the Union Territory. “War against terrorism is not over yet. Kinetic and non-kinetic operations must continue. We must maintain momentum and take stringent action against terrorism and its entire ecosystem,” he said, underlining the importance of a ‘Whole of Government Approach’ to counter radicalisation and the drug menace.
He further instructed security agencies to continuously enhance their strategies and proactively adapt to evolving threats, ensuring the safety of residents and tourists alike.
