PORVORIM: Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas raised awareness of a crucial problem affecting the state’s educational system.
Viegas emphasized how the severe teacher shortage in Goa’s schools has reached concerning proportions and is currently affecting the standard of instruction for pupils.
“There is a severe teacher shortage in almost all of our state’s schools, which leads to a less-than-ideal student-teacher ratio. As a result, there has been a noticeable drop in the standard of education, depriving our kids of the direction and assistance they need,” fervently said Viegas.
The MLA also brought attention to the appalling working conditions of contract teachers, characterizing them as overworked, underpaid, and lacking in benefits and job security.
Viegas emphasized that the abuse of these educators has escalated to a crisis point, further upsetting the already precarious educational system.
“It is abhorrent how poorly contracted teachers are treated. They are underpaid, overworked, and deprived of benefits and job security. The education system is being disrupted by this, he said.
Viegas demanded that the government act quickly to resolve these urgent problems. He called for the regularization of services for contract teachers as well as the prompt filling of open teaching positions.
He also emphasized the importance of giving these educators the tools and assistance they need to carry out their jobs well.
“We must fill the open teaching positions, regularize the employment of contract teachers, and give them the tools and assistance they require,” he declared.
Viegas made a strong plea at the end of his speech, stressing the wider effects of the current state of affairs on coming generations. He emphasized how crucial it is to guarantee that kids receive high-quality education and that educators are treated with respect and decency.
“Our teachers deserve respect and dignity, and our children deserve a high-quality education.” He urged the government to act right away, saying, “Let us work together to ensure that our education system is strengthened and our future generations are empowered.”
