VASCO: In a tragic and disturbing development, a video filmed seconds before the fatal Shantinagar crash has surfaced on social media. The footage, which went viral on Monday, reveals the final moments leading up to the accident.
The deceased, Sanjyot Borkar, is believed to have shot the video from the back seat of a speeding Swift car on the four-lane highway between Varunapuri and Dabolim Airport. The driver, David D’Cruz, is seen in a black T-shirt, with music playing in the background. Another occupant, Saharsh Bhosale, is visible in a blue outfit in the co-driver’s seat.
In the video, Borkar is heard informing D’Cruz that the car has reached a speed of 140 km/h. Desperate pleas from Borkar, “No need, David! No need, David!” can be heard, just a second before D’Cruz is seen steering the vehicle to the left. In a split second, the crash occurs, resulting in a haunting silence from Borkar and Bhosale.
The mobile phone used to record the video appears to have fallen from Borkar’s hands due to the impact but continued recording for another two minutes.
Post the crash, D’Cruz is heard urging his passengers to get up, but no response is heard from either Borkar or Bhosale. The eerie silence in the car is interrupted by barking dogs and locals questioning D’Cruz at the crash site.
D’Cruz is heard asking if anyone was injured and pleading with bystanders not to get angry. He repeatedly calls out to Bhosale to get up, but there is no reply. As the video progresses, the voices of rescuers can be heard as they attempt to help the injured occupants.
The recording concludes after approximately 2.59 minutes, capturing the tragic aftermath of the accident.
The time difference in the video between D’Cruz steering the vehicle and asking his co-occupant to get up after the crash is approximately six seconds, indicating the rapid sequence of events leading to the crash, which involved the car hitting a railing and falling from a height, resulting in the devastating silence from the occupants.
