Margao: In a move to enhance the efficiency and accountability of emergency services, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has declared that six ambulance drivers from North Goa will be suspended due to dereliction of duty.
This decision comes as part of a broader initiative to streamline ambulance services and ensure prompt medical response times.
Rane emphasized that these drivers not only failed to perform their duties but also rendered ambulances non-functional. “Such individuals do not deserve to be in government service,” he stated. The minister is planning to bring all ambulance services under the 108 emergency number system to monitor the oxygen levels of patients from the outset.
Rane advocated for a hire-and-fire approach for emergency services to ensure accountability. “Otherwise, media complaints about delayed ambulance services will continue,” he noted, highlighting the need for a response time of seven to eight minutes.
In addition to addressing the ambulance service issues, Rane announced plans to introduce mobile dialysis units. This initiative aims to provide healthcare at home for critical patients, particularly those with cancer, who cannot be transported to hospitals.
Mobile clinics are also a priority for the health department, with efforts underway to implement them on a war footing. Rane stressed that senior citizens need these mobile clinics to receive healthcare at their doorstep before their conditions worsen.
