MARGAO:A skating coach from Gandhi Market, Margao, has been booked by the Fatorda Police following allegations of grooming and extorting a minor student. The accused, identified as Rajat Irkal, allegedly used social media to manipulate the young girl before threatening her into sending inappropriate images.
The matter came to light after the victim’s mother filed a formal complaint detailing a pattern of harassment that occurred between March 12 and March 17, 2026. According to the complaint, Irkal initiated contact with his student via social media platforms and subsequently sent her an unsolicited, explicit photograph of male private parts.
The police report suggests a calculated effort by the accused to “groom” the minor. When the girl reportedly hesitated to comply with his demands for nude photographs, the coach allegedly turned to criminal act intimidation.
The complainant stated that the accused threatened to sabotage the minor’s athletic career and “ruin her name” across all sports circles if she did not follow his instructions. Under the weight of these threats and in a state of fear, the minor eventually sent a photograph of herself in her undergarments using her mobile phone.
The Fatorda Police have registered the case and are currently examining digital evidence and social media logs related to the communication between the coach and the student.
The investigation is being handled with priority given the sensitivity of the case involving a minor,” authorities stated.
The case is currently being led by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Sanil Dessai of the Fatorda Police Station. As the investigation progresses, officials are expected to look into whether there are other potential victims associated with the instructor’s coaching sessions.
