MARGAO: Congress South Goa Candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes who won the South Goa Lok Sabha seat with a 15,000 plus margin said that it was the defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who campaigned in Cortalim.
“Its defeat of PM Narendra Modi who campaigned in Cortalim, Congress received a lead of 3000 votes. It is a moral defeat for PM Modi,” said Viriato.
He further said that it was not a victory for South Goa but also for Goans. “Victory has shown that money power has no say in Goa.
“We were only campaigning to push our lead because we want to win with a record margin that has never been achieved in the South Goa constituency. This is the confidence of the people who have been working very hard for the Congress because Goans are intelligent” he added.
Capt Fernandes has assured the people that he will take up the issues concerning them such as rising unemployment, increasing crime rate which has made touristic Goa into a crime capital of India, injustice faced by small people including SC, ST and fishermen besides the threat of closure of Dabolim international airport.
“We will take the voice of Goans into the Parliament to prevent the damage and save Goa for future generations,” Capt added.
Capt Fernandes further claimed that the delay in announcing the Congress candidate had turned into a positive wave with people taking over the campaigning for the grand old party.
