PANAJI: The Returning Officer South Goa has issued a show cause notice to AAP MLA Venzy Viegas for campaigning for the INDI alliance at Curchorem without prior permission.
Venzy said that this is an attempt to suppress Opposition voices.
“Attempt made to suppress our voices, INDIA alliance shall win both Seats in Goa,” Venzy said.
Meanwhile, the notice read, “This office is in receipt of a detailed Report from the Assistant Returning Officer, 37 Curchorem Assembly segment bearing Ref No – SDO/QPM/PM/ELN-Lok Sabha/47 dated 07/042024 along with enclosures annexing the Fiying Squad Report regarding violation
of Model Code of Conduct by MLA Venzy Viegas of Benaulim Constituency and others on April 6 at around 07.00 p.m. near Shivaji Circle Curchorem under the banner of INDIA Alliance by holding a public meeting with loudspeaker without obtaining prior permission from the competent authorities.”
Further, it says, “I, Asvin Chandru A., IAS, Returning officer/District Election officer, South Goa do hereby order you to show cause within 48 hours from the date of receipt of this Show Cause as to why appropriate action for violation of Model Code of Conduct should not be taken against you.”
“In the event of no response from your side within the stipulated time, it will be presumed that you have nothing to say in the matter and the Returning officer/District Election officer will take appropriate action or decision in the matter without making any further reference to you. Given under my hand and seal dated this 08th day of April 2024,” it said.
