MARGAO: Representatives of the South Goa Taxi Union, led by vice president Savio, met Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai along with members from different parts of the district, raising concerns over the growing issue of illegal touting.
The union alleged that unauthorised operators are actively soliciting customers near hotels and along coastal belts, affecting the business of licensed taxi drivers.
They asserted that such activities are impacting their livelihoods and must be stopped immediately.
Calling for strict enforcement, the union urged the police to take firm action against touts and increase vigilance in key tourist areas.
SP Desai heard their concerns and assured that necessary steps would be taken to safeguard the interests of authorised taxi operators.
The issue once again brings attention to recurring friction within Goa’s tourism sector, where local taxi unions have frequently clashed with illegal operators, particularly in busy coastal zones ahead of the peak tourist season.
