ALDONA: St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona marked Children’s Day by felicitating 18 students — two girls and sixteen boys — for their dedication to cycling to school every day. The initiative aims to promote fitness, environmental awareness, and safe commuting among students.
Manager Fr. Jerard Sahayaraj, Principal Angelica Fernandes, and Senior Teacher Amarnath Panjikar presented tokens of appreciation to the students in recognition of their discipline and consistent efforts.
Speaking at the event, Panjikar said the students had set a positive example at a time when many minors ride motorcycles without valid licences. He added that choosing to cycle reflects responsibility, supports physical well-being, and encourages eco-friendly habits.
The school highlighted that cycling reduces pollution, improves student health, and contributes to a greener environment. Other students were encouraged to adopt similar sustainable practices.
The programme was coordinated by Senior Teacher Amarnath Panjikar, who hoped the initiative would inspire more students to use bicycles as a regular mode of transport.
