PANAJI: Today, State Immunization Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar informed us that Goa will be holding a state immunization drive for Polio on February 27.
“We have this drive in accordance to the government of India directives, and the polio vaccination drive will be held across Goa via 667 centres for the children below the age of 5 years,” said Dr Borkar.
He further said that the state government has set up a target of 105080 children.
“Every year we are doing 100 per cent polio vaccination, and this year too, we will achieve 100 vaccination for polio”, he added.
Dr Borkar said that the vaccines have arrived in the state, and so also the training for the staff has been completed. I urge the parents to come with children below the age of 5.
“No case of polio has been detected in India for the last 3 years, and WHO has recognized India as. Polio free state, Dr Borkar said.
All children of 0-5 years of age will be provided polio drops under the campaign supported by Unicef, WHO and Rotary International.
To identify children who miss out on the drops, recipients will have their left little fingers marked by the officials. All newborns have to be provided drops. So should be children immunized recently under the routine immunization schedule.
