CANACONA: It’s a beautiful and charming weekend in Canacona but for Luba a Serbian National stuck up in the taluka since last one year it’s a nightmare as he fights with his emotions to convince himself that he will reach home soon to the comfort of his family and friends back home and also escape the monsoons and its effects on his health.
Like him there are still more than a few hundred of foreigners who had come to India as tourists in 2019 but are stuck up in Canacona for various reasons, as they come from countries with colder climate, the summer and the Indian monsoon is making their life miserable to say the least they say.
There were thousands of foreign tourists who had unexpectedly stuck in Goa after India announced sudden lockdown on 23rd March 2020 for them the Indian summer was nothing less than a hot oven and the monsoon were equally bad.
Luba a Serbian national is stuck here in Canacona since last one and half year.
Speaking with this correspondent he says he is living a distressed life since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the fag end of 2019.
Luba says that he had come on a vacation for a few months to India and there was no other choice than Goa for him.
“Lot of my friends suggested me to go to Goa as Goa has good beaches with equally good people around” Lube added.
He said that he wanted to unwind himself after lots of ups and downs in his personal life and had thought of staying for a couple of months before going back to his life in Serbia.
But like so many other tourists still stuck here in Canacona, disaster struck from all sides, it’s one sort of hell to get trapped in a place where you have just come, no accommodation and food during lock down but still he says he survived till now with the help of locals here.
“I am with out money and work, a small help comes from family and friends back home, a occasional friend offers a beer or two, life is miserable not only for me but for others stuck here” Luba says.
This correspondent spoke to a cross section of these tourists who have found some cheap accommodation just little away from the beaches in Canacona as the accommodation near the beach is too costly and unaffordable for them many informed.
Normally most of us have our own skills but with nothing happening around we have become penniless to put it simply said an Israeli girl.
Its common to see these tourists gathering at the beaches close to where they are living and practicing their skills and pumping each other’s motivation and energy levels to destress themselves as they prepare to face another gruesome monsoon season.
When asked why they chose to stay back inspite of so many flights were arranged to take back foreigners stuck in different places in India, Luba informed that he and many like him are from smaller countries and their countries didn’t send them reparation flights and if he had to go by the flight arranged by Britain it would have been like jumping from frying pan to fire he said.
Looking at the current scenario it’s highly improbable that we would be leaving India anytime soon and me like other Europeans here are bracing to face the challenges of the heavy Indian monsoon when the humidity levels reach closer to 100 percent Luba added.
